PROJECT RATIONALE

What is the connection between the media and how we view our own genders? How do these perceptions of gender impact our interpersonal relationships? What other narratives of gender are there in the world? We are here to ruin gender for our students by providing them with authentic learning  experiences that will help them learn about the difference between biological sex and gender, interrogate how gender stereotypes impacts their identities and relationships, and compile their thoughts into a creative performance piece. In doing so, we will cover curricular outcomes for grade 9 Social Studies, English Language Arts, Science, Health, Music, and Drama while providing students with deep learning experiences that will allow them to make connections beyond the classroom. Interdisciplinarity in this unit develops students ability to think critically as ethical citizens. It is our hope that through this study students will focus on their own identity formation in a positive manner.
