WEEK 5

Essential Question: How can performance be used to express personal understanding?

Students will examine the Fine Arts as a means of expressing and communicating ideas about societal issues. During this week students will begin synthesizing their learning for the performance project. Points of Interest: The Queer Arts Society, ManUp!, music videos and lyrics, Social Justice guest speaker

OBJECTIVES

  • Students will understand the relationship between Fine Arts and Social Justice

  • Students will synthesize their previous learnings into a rough draft of their performance piece

Week 5: Body

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES & ASSESSMENT

  • Students begin week by examining provocative art pieces and their connections to social issues

  • Students will use these art pieces as models for the scaffolding of their own work

  • Students will participate in improv and role playing activities to expand their conception of performance

  • Students will examine performative art and its function in Social Justice, especially through an LGBTQ+ lens, through a guest speaker talk from the Calgary Queer Arts Society and Man Up!

  • Students will write or perform a reflective exit slip after the talks

  • Students will create a short script and storyboard for their piece

  • For the purpose of metacognition, students will document and reflect on each stage of the group project's development 

  • Students will send out invitations to families and community members

​

  • Students will practice giving feedback to their peers through examining each other's Digital Journals 

  • Students will record on a handout their favourite aspects of two peers' Digital Journals and reflect on how they have provoked further thought
